I’m not sure what grade level to list for my child. How should I choose?

We recommend that you choose the grade level for which you would like percentile rankings. For many families this is the grade level the child would be in their local public school, based on their birthdate. MAP Growth adapts to the student’s performance as they test independent of their grade level. If your child is working well at grade level, please see our guidelines for above-level testing.

2nd grade PRE-READER or 2nd grade READER?
Pre-Readers take the K-2 levels. The K-2 levels have automatic audio support on most questions. There will be some questions without audio-support; this is by design to challenge the student. 2nd grade Pre-Reader level is best for kids that are reading shorter, picture-based books and that still need an adults help with reading.

2nd grade Readers take the 2-5 levels. The 2-5 levels do not have automatic audio support. 2nd grade Reader is best for kids that are reading independently, longer form books, and comfortable reading 4-5 paragraphs at a time. If needed, text-to-speech accommodation can be added to the 2-5 level assessments for students with reading difficulties.
