NWEA® MAP® Growth™ Testing Days
What to Expect Before, During, and After
Our goal is to provide homeschool families with a stress-free MAP Growth testing experience and homeschool testing resources that are convenient and comfortable.
Our tests provide useful results for students, whether they are working at, above, or below grade level (or a mix of all three).
We believe taking MAP Growth testing at home is a superior experience for most homeschool families whether they are testing for placement, peace of mind, or to meet state requirements.

Student Resources
Please use these resources to familiarize your students with MAP Growth.
The Week Before Testing
Your proctor will email you with helpful information about what the MAP test is and how to prepare for testing, and they will provide preliminary login links and testing information.
Please read the provided information carefully and talk to your children or students about what to expect.
Prep Your Devices
Browser
Starting in Fall 2026-2027, NWEA Secure Browsers must be installed to complete testing.
This new requirement has been set to prevent use of artificial intelligence programs while testing.
Please select the appropriate option to download and install the secure testing browser.
Operating System
Quickly check if the device that will be used for testing is ready by clicking on the “Check Device Readiness” button.
Take a Practice Test!
Students are welcome to take a practice test. You can try as many of the subjects as many times as needed.
Please note: The practice test is intended to help students become familiar with the format of the MAP Growth test and it’s available tools. It is not scored.
Test Days
Before Testing
You will receive instructions and testing guidelines via email every day that your student is scheduled for a test. Please review the information carefully and follow the instructions provided for setting up.

⭐️ Proctors will be available Monday through Friday from 8AM-7PM CST to support your testing sessions
⭐️ Breaks are encouraged! If you think you will be away for 15 minutes or more, let us know
⭐️ Proctors do not visually monitor testing students – no webcam is required
⭐️ It is not necessary for your child to interact with the proctor

Step 1: Open your Secure Testing Browser
Step 2: Enter your student’s login information and select their name from the drop-down list
Step 3: Wait a few seconds to be confirmed

During Testing
This is what you can expect while taking a MAP Growth assessment.
Untimed Testing
Overall, MAP Growth tests are untimed.
This means a student has a maximum of 28 days to complete their test once started, or before the end of the season, whichever comes first.
There is one timed aspect.
Each question has a 15 minute window of opportunity. If an answer is not submitted before 15 minutes has passed, the student will be locked out of the test for security and test integrity purposes. Simply reach out to our proctors and they will let your student back in. There are no penalties for going over the question time limit.
On average, a test can be completed in 45-60 minutes, depending on breaks taken.
Predictable Duration
40-45 questions
The number of questions per subject varies but will never exceed 45 questions.
No Stress
Progress is automatically saved after each question is answered – no worries about losing progress if your internet blips or your student gets locked out.
Breaks are highly encouraged. Take as many breaks as needed, as often as needed.
Having a hard day and need to continue another day? No problem! Contact us to be rescheduled.
Comfort
Use your own computer or iPad
Test where you’re most comfortable – at home, at the library, wherever you want…as long as there is reliable internet!
After Testing
This is what you can expect after completing a MAP Growth assessment.
Immediately After
Raw Data
At the end of each test subject you will see your student’s raw score data. This data is to give you a bare bones idea of their grade level placement.
24-48 Hours After
Full Score Report is available
1-2 days after testing is complete you will receive the full, detailed score report that shows how your student compares to other students.
Learning Statements
This expanded section will show what your student is ready to learn next.
Confidence
You can feel confident in the percentile rankings on your score report.
NWEA conducts norming studies frequently – every three years – ensuring that the comparisons reflect current standards and demographics. They continually refine their best-in-class research model to make NWEA norms more accurate than any other.
Beyond Testing
We encourage you to use your MAP Growth score reports to set goals for the coming year.
You can also use your MAP Growth score reports to find resources to teach your child at their learning level.
